EDMOND –
Sierra Crick went 4-for-4 at the plate as Northeastern State split their regular season series at Central Oklahoma on a blustery Saturday afternoon. Crick had a pair of doubles and three runs scored as the RiverHawks outlasted the Bronchos (25-16, 13-5 MIAA) 8-4 in the second game.
The offensive outburst for the RiverHawks (26-21, 12-10 MIAA) was in stark contrast to the opener where they went hit less in a 1-0 loss. A one out RBI single up the middle in the fourth was the difference in the pitcher's duel.
Gail Young (12-12) allowed only four hits with the RiverHawks reaching twice by a walk.
In the nightcap,
Kaleigh Hinkle hit a two RBI double to left center in the second, and
Jess Schuler singled up the middle in the following inning as the RiverHawks never relinquished its lead to the 'Chos.
Northeastern State in the fifth extended their lead out to 6-0 scoring on a Schuler bases loaded walk and a
Jessica Boone sac fly. The team's third run came on a double steal with
Coral Ash swiping home plate.
The Bronchos would plate a run in the bottom half off the fifth before the RiverHawks scored two more in the sixth with RBIs singles from
Paige Gann and
Taylor Vaughan.
On their final chance at the plate, UCO made the game interesting for a few minutes scoring two on a homer to right and third run off a double to trim the RiverHawks' lead to four. NSU's Young came in for a relief appearance
to record the final three outs to secure the split.
Sydney Balderrama (13-6) was the pitcher of record for the RiverHawks and went six innings; Hinkle and Schuler both had a pair of RBIs.
Northeastern State will be at home for its final six games of the regular season starting with a non-conference double header on Tuesday against Rogers State.
