Mariah Nicolet and
Paulina Chavez combined for three goals and one assist in leading Northeastern State to a 3-1 victory over Southern Nazarene in the season opener for both schools at Wes Harmon Field here Thursday evening.
The RiverHawks took the early advantage in the 28th minute of the opening half, Nicolet posted her first goal of the evening off a pass from Chavez and took a 1-0 lead into the half.
Southern Nazarene quickly tied the match just five minutes into the second half on a goal frolm Jaycie Routon.
The RiverHawks wasted no time breaking the tie. Nicolet posted her second goal of the game giving NSU a 2-1 lead, and Chavez sealed the deal with a goal in the 80th minute for 3-1 season opening victory.
Northeastern State keeper
Brennan Hockett picked up her first victory, allowed the one goal and collecting two saves on the evening. The RiverHawks were relentless on the offensive end outshooting SNU 19-4.
The RiverHawks will continue the season opening road trip this Saturday, as they will take on Northwestern Oklahoma State. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in Alva.
