RiverHawks take down Mules, 84-72, for sixth straight win

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State brought the heat and thumped Central Missouri, 84-72, for their sixth win in a row on Thursday evening.

The streak matches the team's last longest one which was set during the 2012-13 season, and the longest for the program during their tenure in the MIAA.

The last time NSU won six conference games in a row is in 2010 when they were members of the Lone Star Conference North Division.

A hot shooting first half paved the way for success with the RiverHawks taking a 16-point (43-27) halftime lead that they never relinquished.

Central Missouri (10-9, 3-7 MIAA) would make it interesting for the RiverHawks late and banked six treys to trim the lead down to 64-60 with 3:58 left.   Northeastern State countered the Mules with a 10-3 run that was capped on by Trent Cantrell who sank his sixth trey of the evening.

Cantrell finished with a career high 25 points with the junior averaging nearly 19 in the last four games.  Bradley George scored 21 and added eight rebounds with five assists.  Tanner Mouse had 16 and Caleb Smith dropped 15 on the Mules.

NSU ended the evening shooting 51.9-percent (28-54) with rebounds even for both teams at 30.

Thursday's win will bring the RiverHawks up 12-8 overall and 6-5 in the MIAA.
