LEMONT, Ill. -- The Northeastern State Women's Golf team won the Lewis Flyer Intercollegiate in convincing fashion on Tuesday, beating out second-place Texas A&M International by 27 strokes. The RiverHawks shot 309 in round two for a tournament total of 623.
Three RiverHawks finished in the top-five, with
Aitana Hernandez and
Kaylee Petersen finishing tied for second at 153, five strokes behind Lexie Shaw of Trevecca Nazarene University, who won the tournament. Hernandez shot 73 on Tuesday to jump ten spots on the leaderboard while Petersen shot 76.
Nina Lee finished in fourth place, just one stroke behind her teammates. She shot 81 on Tuesday to finish the tournament at 154.
In four events this fall, Hernandez has three top-10 finishes, and a tournament win. Petersen has two finishes in the top-10, and this was Lee's career-best finish.Â
Kelly Swanson shot 79 on Tuesday to finish tied for 17th at 163 while
Karlei Hemler finished in 75th at 182 (92-90).Â
NSU will compete on Oct. 7-8 at the Mule Invitational in Warrensburg, Mo., which will wrap up their fall season.
