TAHLEQUAH – Another night, another 20-point win by the RiverHawks who blew past Oklahoma Christian 76-56 Saturday night inside the NSU Event Center.
Kendrick Thompson carried the RiverHawks with a career night scoring 28 on 11-for-17 shooting. The NSU senior drilled six straight treys with the team dropping 14 on the Eagles.
With four straight wins to start the season, NSU is off to its best start to 2013, with a win margin at 33 points.
The game wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, and NSU didn't get off to a great start with OC sticking with them through the better part of the first half.
Tied at 26 with 5:28 left in the first half, the RiverHawks road with Thompson, who had nine points during that stretch, and they finished on a 16-8 run. NSU drilled four treys to separate themselves from Oklahoma Christian.
Out of the locker room, a quick run of seven unanswered by NSU put the game away.
"Kendrick bailed us out, our shooting bailed us out," said head coach
Mark Downey. "I didn't think we played very well early. They were, I mean to their credit we told our guys, I didn't think we prepared very well for this game in terms of practice, our preparation wasn't very good Thursday and Friday, so it did worry me."
Thompson was NSU's lone starter in double-digits against the Eagles.
Brad Davis had 15 points off the bench and was the team's second-leading scorer.
Iain McLaughlin added nine, and
Aaron Givens was two points short of a double-double with eight and ten boards.
NSU shot 56-percent from the arc and from the field, they were 47.5-percent.
On the glass, the Eagles out-did the RiverHawks by ten with 39.
The loss drops Oklahoma Christian to 0-2 to start the year.
Northeastern State will close out their three-game homestand Monday where they will host Langston at 7 p.m.
