TAHLEQUAH –
Cenia Hayes and
Shae Sanchez both had 14 points by a late fourth-quarter run by Texas Woman's downed the RiverHawks 60-47 Wednesday inside the NSU Event Center.
The RiverHawks trailed out of the gates but cut a TWU double-digit lead down to two with 7:36 left in the game. The scoring would go stone cold for the next four minutes, and the Pioneers scored 12 unanswered points to shut down the threat.
Northeastern State is now 2-3 in the young season.
Despite being shut out from the arc, Texas Woman's (2-1) finished the game red hot, only missing one of their final 11 shots. Without the deep threat, the Pioneers lived next to the post, scoring 44 of their points from inside the paint.
Maegan Lee and
Cielo McClain both led the RiverHawks with seven rebounds, and Hayes added six. However, the RiverHawks were out-gunned on the glass by TWU 38-to-26.
Morgan Hellyer played a career-high 35 minutes and had five assists.
From the field, the RiverHawks shot a season-low 29.1-percent on 16-for-55 shooting.
Wednesday's loss was the first meeting between the two teams since 2011 when both were members of the Lone Star Conference.
The RiverHawks will be off through the weekend and returns to the court to face Oklahoma Baptist on Nov. 26 at 7 p.m.
