RiverHawks drop doubleheader at St. Edward's

AUSTIN, Texas---- Northeastern State's Alex Massie drove in the only run the RiverHawks could muster as St. Edwards took both games of a twin bill 4-1 and 11-0 in the season opener for both schools at Lucian Hamilton Field here Friday afternoon.

NSU starter Dustin Berrong went three innings in the opener, giving up five hits, allowed one earned run and struck out three.

After the Hilltoppers took an 1-0 with a home run in the third inning, the RiverHawks rallied in the fourth to tie the game.  Wes O'Neill was hit by a hit and Colton Wright walked to open the fourth inning.  Both runners advanced on a fielder's choice and Massie's sacrifice fly to center field plated the only run of the day for the RiverHawks.  The Hilltopper's reclaimed the lead in the home half of the fourth inning and claim the 4-1 victory.  St. Edward's pitchers held the RiverHawks to just one hit and fanned 11 in the opener.

In game two, the Hilltopper's pitching continued to dominate, allowing only two NSU hits and striking out 11.  Blake Freeman and Zack Henderson picked up the only two hits for the RiverHawks.

Northeastern State will look to right the ship as it will take on the Hilltopper's on Saturday.  Game time is set for 2:30.
