RiverHawks swept by Rogers State

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State's Colton Wright went 3-4 at the plate and Wes O'Neill had two RBI's in a 14-7 loss to Rogers State in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Rousey Field here Saturday.  The Hillcats took the opener 12-4.

The losses move the RiverHawks to 1-9 on the year, while Rogers State improves to 8-2.

A 1-1 game heading into the sixth inning, Rogers State exploded for 11 runs in the frame to take a commanding 12-1 lead.

NSU would trim the lead in the sixth, after loading the bases, Freeman's single and Jaxon Phipps sacrifice fly plated two.  The RiverHawks put another run on the board in the seventh inning on O'Neill's first home run of the year trimming the Hillcats lead down to 12-4.

NSU starter Jonathan Smithey had his best outing of the young season, going five innings, allowed just four hits and struck out six.

In the nightcap, the Hillcats offense was again too much for the RiverHawks, scoring early and often in completing the season sweep with a 14-7 victory.

Despite the loss, 10 different players had hits and five players collected RBI's.  Wright led the way with three hits in the game, Freeman, O'Neill and Gabe Simons each had two hits apiece.

Jeremy Husband took the loss for the RiverHawks, going two and two-thirds innings and striking out two.

Northeastern State will continue its homestand as Northwest Missouri State will visit Rousey Field next weekend to open the MIAA conference play.
