Phipps homers in NSU baseball loss

TAHLEQUAH, OK --- Jaxon Phipps drove in four runs and belted his second home run of the year as the RiverHawks fell 16-6 to Southeastern Oklahoma State at Rousey Field here Tuesday.

Northeastern State falls to 2-12 on the year, SEOSU improves to 7-7.

Struggles at the plate continued as the RiverHawks only managed five hits on the day.  Colten Burgess and Phipps each had two hits apiece and Zack Henderson added the other.

After falling behind 5-1 after two innings of play, the RiverHawks roared back in the third inning.  Connor West walked to open the frame, stole second and scored on the wild pitch. Erick Espinosa and Burgess both walked.  After a SEOSU pitching change, Phipps took a 3-1 pitch and deposited over the left field wall to tie the game at 5-5.

The Savage Storm answered the rally with two runs in the fourth inning, six in the fifth and three more in the seventh to capture a 16-6 victory.

NSU sent seven pitchers to the mound, issuing a season-high 14 walks on the day.  Garrett McClain was credited with the loss.

Northeastern State will get back into MIAA Conference play this weekend with a road trip to Warrensburg, MO to take on Central Missouri.  Game one is scheduled for Friday, March 1 at 2:00 p.m.
