TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State's season came to a halt on Thursday with a 68-59 loss to Emporia State.
Senior
Joi Bertrand paced the RiverHawks with 15 points in her final game.
Cenia Hayes had 14 and
Maegan Lee added seven points.
The RiverHawks stuck with the Lady Hornets through the majority of the first half. With 3:14 left to the intermission, NSU managed to tie the game for the third time at 27-27. Momentum shifted and Emporia State would finish the half on a 10-2 run.
Northeastern State trailed the rest of the way. Between the third and fourth period, NSU went on a quick 5-0 run to get back within six (56-50) on a Bertrand bucket. Emporia State responded back with seven unanswered points to end NSU's night.
Turnovers came back to haunt the RiverHawks with ESU having 11 takeaways. The Lady Hornets outscored NSU 16-to-7 in points off turnovers.
Northeastern State had a slight rebounding edge by two with 33 as a team. Four NSU players finished the evening tied with five.
From the field, Emporia State (22-6, 13-5 MIAA) shot slightly better at 42.1-percent (24-57) but had eight more possessions with the ball.
Northeastern State's season ends with a record at 6-22 overall and 3-16 in the MIAA.
