Acrey blasts 7 RBI in comeback win

JOPLIN, Mo. – Haley Acrey blasted two home runs and helped carry the RiverHawks to a comeback 12-9 win over Washburn on Friday afternoon.

The contest pitted the MIAA programs in playing a non-conference game with the weekend schedule wiped out due to weather.

Northeastern State trailed 7-0 heading into the home half of the fifth inning.   With the bases loaded and one out, Jess Schuler hit an infield single to score their first run of the game.  Acrey followed up with her first homer of the season to clear the bases and get NSU within two of the Ichabods.

In the following inning, Kelsey Harmon tied the game with a two-run shot.   Schuler later with the bases loaded again hit a double to plate two go-ahead runs on the 'Bods.  Acrey continued the fun with a three-run homer to give the RiverHawks a 12-7 lead.

Washburn (7-10) would try to rally in the seventh and hit a two-run homer with one out.  The Ichabods managed to get the tying run on-deck before Gail Young came in and struck out the remaining two batters for the save.

Acrey finished the game going 3-for-4 at the plate and seven RBI.  Schuler also had three hits with three RBI.  Alyssia Crick and Madison Boyd both had three hits games for the RiverHawks.

Northeastern State goes to 9-9 with the win and they will face Cameron at 5 p.m. to wrap of their day.
