RiverHawks stay hot with sweep at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. --- Northeastern State pitching combo of Gail Young and Sydney Balderrama led the way to a doubleheader sweep of Lindenwood at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.  The RiverHawks took the opener 3-1 and the nightcap 6-2 in MIAA action here Sunday.

NSU now improves to 16-11 on the year and 7-1 in conference play.

When the bats were not as active as they are used to, the RiverHawks used unconventional ways to score in the opener.  Alyssia Crick opened the game by being hit by a pitch found herself on third after two wild pitches.  Crick gave the RiverHawks a 1-0 advantage on Jessica Schuler's sacrifice fly.

The NSU defense helped Gail Young pick up her ninth victory of the year.  Young scattered 10 Lindenwood hits, struck out three, and only allowed one run.  The RiverHawks added insurance in the seventh inning.  Cameron Conrad's RBI double and

Alyssia Crick's single gave NSU a 3-0 lead they would not relinquish.
In game two, Cameron Conrad picked up two hits and drove in two leading NSU to a 6-2 victory.

Northeastern State took a 1-0 in the first inning thanks to a Lindenwood error.  Sierra Crick's RBI double in the second inning pushed the lead to 2-0.  NSU put a four-spot on the board in the third inning.  Taylor Vaughn's single scored two and Cameron Conrad double plated two more for a 6-0 RiverHawks lead.

NSU starter Sydney Balderrama threw a complete game giving up just two runs on nine hits and struck out five on the day.

Next action for the RiverHawks will be at the Missouri Western Crossover in St. Joseph Missouri on March 22-24.  Check with www.goriverhawksgo.com for game times and schedule changes.
