RiverHawks blowout UAFS, 10-1

FORT SMITH, Ark. --- Northeastern State exploded with a seven-run seventh inning as the RiverHawks picked up a 10-1 victory over UA-Fort Smith at Crowder Field here Tuesday.

The victory proved to be a total team effort.  Nine different players contributed with a hit and eight pitchers combined to allow just nine hits and one run.

NSU starter Trevor Smith picked up his first victory of the year, going two strong innings allowing one hit and fanned one.

Alex Massie and Erick Espinosa proved to be tough outs for the Lion.  Massie was 3-4 at the plate with two RBI and belted his third home run of the year. Espinosa was 3-5 at the plate with a walk and RBI.

Brad Chronister, Colton Wright, and Jaxon Phipps each had two hits, while Gabe Simons made the most of his only plate appearance with a two-RBI single.

NSU opened the scoring in the third inning, using three hits, an error and walk to plate two in the frame.  Massie extended the lead to 3-0 with a solo blast in the fourth inning.

The Lions pulled to within 3-1 when the RiverHawks came to bat in the seventh inning.  NSU pounded out seven hits and took advantage of two errors to plate seven runs in the frame to extend the lead out to 10-1.

The RiverHawks improve to 4-21 on the year and will look to carry the momentum back into MIAA action as Fort Hays State comes to Tahlequah for a weekend series.  Game one on Friday is set to begin at 2:00.
