TAHLEQUAH, Okla.---- Northeastern State saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end with a 6-2 loss to Southwest Baptist in MIAA baseball action at Thomas C. Rousey Field here Sunday.
The RiverHawks captured its second consecutive series taking two of three from the Bearcats moving to 10-22 and 7-11 in conference play.
After combining for 26 hits through the first two games, NSU managed only four hits on the day. Â
Blake Freeman collected two of the hits, while
Jaxon Phipps and
Alex Massie accounted for the other two.
Scoreless after three innings, Southwest Baptist plated a run in the fourth inning and pushed five runs across in the fifth for a 6-0 lead after five innings.
The RiverHawks picked up three of its four hits in the seventh inning. Â Freeman doubled down the right field line to open the frame. Â Phipps single and a Bearcat error pushed across the first NSU run of the day. Â Phipps later scored on
Colton Burgess ground out cutting the Bearcat lead to 6-2.
James Cowell got the start on the mound for the RiverHawks, lasting 4.1 innings, gave up three earned runs on three hits. Â Cowell was credited with the loss moving his record to 1-2. Â
Northeastern State will continue MIAA action next weekend as it travels to Pittsburg State for a three-game series.
