Early runs sting RiverHawks in 10-3 loss

TAHLEQUAH – Haley Acrey hit her eighth homer of the season but Northeastern State had to settle for a split with Washburn falling 10-3 on Friday afternoon.

Northeastern State is now 24-21 overall and 12-8 in the MIAA.

The Ichabods (23-21, 14-6 MIAA) led 8-0 heading into the home half of the fifth and out-hit the RiverHawks 14-to-9.

Cameron Conrad went 3-for-3 at the plate and Addie Elbon had a 2-for-3 game.

Sydney Balderrama (8-9) was charged with the loss after going 3 2/3 innings with two strikeouts.  Alex Azua completed the rest of the game in relief.

Washburn drew first blood on the RiverHawks and loaded the bases with no outs in the second.  They plated two on a single and one more on an errant throw.  An additional run crossed home on a double steal to put Washburn up 4-0.

The Ichabods continued to extend their lead in the third where they hit a three-run homer.  In the fourth, they added one more to go up by eight.

Acrey kept the RiverHawks alive in fifth. After a Washburn pitching change with two runners on, Acrey hit the first pitch off the reliever over the right field fence to extend the game.

Northeastern State threatened in the sixth and loaded the bases with no outs.  However, those runners were left stranded after a strikeout and two infield flies.

In the seventh, Washburn plated two more runs to go up 10-3 on five hits in the inning.

The RiverHawks left 11 runners on base in the loss.

Northeastern State closes out their home slate with Emporia State on Saturday at noon for a doubleheader.  RiverHawks' senior day will be in-between games.
