RiverHawks win fourth consecutive MIAA title

MAYETTA, Kan. – Northeastern State rallied from nine strokes back to solidify a conference dynasty with their fourth straight MIAA Championship on Wednesday.

A hot start with ten birdies on the front nine pulled the RiverHawks nearly back even with Central Missouri.

The race remained neck-and-neck until pins 14 through 16 where they shot seven-under as a group to move past the Jennies.  Freshman golfers Amber Bruins and Aitana Hernandez were key to the team's success with both having three birdies during that run.

With a six-stroke lead heading into the final pin, Central Missouri cut into NSU's advantage by half but ran out of time.

The RiverHawks fired a tournament low 293 in the final round and 902 after 54 holes.

Hernandez was named to the All-Tournament Team with a tie for third place on a 222 score (73-77-72).  Ebba Moberg finished seventh shooting a 226 (75-78-73) in the three-day event.   Lexi Armon was tied for tenth overall with a 229 score (78-78-73).

Kelsey Lumpkin shot a 233 (82-76-75) and came in 18th place, and Bruins was a stroke behind (74-81-79) in 19th place.

Missouri Western's Shi Qing Ong took medalist honors with a 215.

Northeastern State will see their season continue at the NCAA Central Regional on May 6-8 at the Muskogee Country Club.   The RiverHawks were awarded hosting duties prior to the season.
