EDMOND – Survive and advance.  The beat continues at the MIAA Softball Championship for Northeastern State who beat Washburn 3-2 on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 12th inning from Jess Schuler on Friday.

The contest is the longest for Northeastern State since Feb. 20, 2010, vs. Eastern New Mexico and the deepest tournament run since 2014 where they reached the Championship Finals. 

Northeastern State plays Emporia State or Central Missouri later this evening in round four of play. 

Madison Boyd and Alyssia Crick both had two hits in the win.  After giving up two runs in the second inning, Gail Young (19-12) tossed nine straight scoreless frames on 146 total pitches. 

Washburn controlled the four innings of play with their starter Raegen Hamm tossing a no-hitter after 4 2/3 innings.  Hamm would strike out a career-high 12 batters in the loss. 

A Washburn walk and infield hit led to a run in the third with a ball that squeaked by short.  The Ichabods followed with their next batter hitting a single down the right-field line to go up 2-0 on the RiverHawks.

After being no-hit for four innings, Cameron Conrad hit a single with two outs to get the Washburn bid.   Alyssia Crick followed her at-bat with an RBI single, and then Boyd hit a 3-1 pitch to left to score Conrad in to tie the game with the 'Bods.

In extras, the third time turned out to be the charm for NSU after leaving a runner in scoring position in the eighth and 11th inning.  Alyssia Crick opened the 12th off with a double to left center.  Boyd would reach trying to drop a sac bunt down to put runners on the corner.   Following a fly out, Schuler sent a 1-0 pitch to left, which was deep enough to score Crick in from third for the win. 

The win moves NSU to 28-26 while Washburn will see their season end at 27-26.
