Women's Soccer to continue non-conference play against Bronchos, Hillcats


TAHLEQUAH -- The NSU Women's Soccer team will put their undefeated record on the line this weekend when they host No. 15 Central Oklahoma on Friday night and travel to Claremore, Okla. to face Rogers State on Sunday.

First Touches
1. The RiverHawks picked up two more wins over the weekend, including a thrilling double-overtime win over Harding that saw Mariah Nicolet score two goals, including the game-winner. They also picked up a 3-0 win over Southern Nazarene. 

2. Nicolet is the team leader this season with five goals, three of which were game-winners. She also has 11 shots on goal. Paulina Chavez and Callie Rucker both have two goals for NSU, while Anslea Haikey and Maranda Ritter both have one goal this season. Brennan Hockett has gotten the majority of time in net, playing in all four games and making four saves. Ainsley Cunningham has played two matches in net, making two saves and compiling a 1-0 record.

3. NSU has a record of 9-18-2 all-time against the Bronchos. Their last meeting was Oct. 28, 2018 in Edmond, which resulted in a 2-1 RiverHawks win. The last time NSU beat the Bronchos in Tahlequah was Oct. 27, 2017. This will be the first meeting between the RiverHawks and Hillcats.

4. Chase Wooten is in his ninth season as head coach of the RiverHawks, with a career record of 112-50-14, the best in school history. He has taken NSU to the MIAA Tournament for seven straight seasons, including a berth in the conference finals in 2015.

5. Central Oklahoma enters the match ranked No. 15 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and bring a 3-0-1 record into the match after beating East Central 6-0 on Wed. night. The Bronchos have two players who have scored six goals, Kelsie Eason and Asha Haile. They both also lead the Bronchos with 11 shots on goal. Kaitlyn Asher has spent the majority of time in net for the Bronchos, making eight saves. Kelsi Gibson and Bailey Ledbetter both have played one match in net and have both made two saves.

6. Rogers State brings a 3-1 record into the match. They will face Newman on Friday before facing NSU. The Hillcats are led by Laurelle Theodore, who has scored three goals on four shots on goal with two assists this season. Kori Watters and Anita Gaspar both have two goals this season, with Gaspar leading the team in shots on goal with nine. ReVella Fisher has started all four games in net, making 20 saves on the season.

Up Next: NSU will face Newman on Sept. 27 in their final non-conference match before opening MIAA play Sept. 29 at Central Oklahoma.
