NSU women's soccer visits Newman and opens league play at Bronchos

TAHLEQUAH -- The RiverHawks Women's Soccer team will wrap up their non-conference schedule Friday night at Newman before opening their MIAA slate on Sunday afternoon with a rematch against Central Oklahoma. 

First Touches
1. The RiverHawks are 4-1-1 this season after recording their first scoreless draw since 2011 Sunday against Rogers State. That followed their first loss of the season, a 2-1 match against Central Oklahoma that saw them allow two goals in the first five minutes of the second half. 

2. Mariah Nicolet is the RiverHawks leader with five goals and 16 shots on goal this season, with three match-winning goals. Paulina Chavez and Callie Rucker both have two goals while Hannah Stettler, Anslea Haikey and Maranda Ritter all have one goal on the season. Brennan Hockett has appeared in net for all six matches, recording 18 saves and two shutouts. Ainsley Cunningham has played 99 minutes in net over three matches, recording two saves.

3. The RiverHawks are 7-1 all-time against Newman, though this will be the first time since Oct. 6, 2011 that the two teams have played.  Against the Bronchos, NSU is 9-19-2 all-time. The last time NSU visited Edmond was on Oct. 26, 2018, when they picked up a 2-1 road victory. 

4. Chase Wooten is in his ninth season as head coach of the RiverHawks, with a career record of 112-51-15, the best in school history. He has taken NSU to the MIAA Tournament for seven straight seasons, including a berth in the conference finals in 2015. 

5. The Jets enter the weekend holding a 4-0-2 record this season. They have recorded wins over Drury, Western Colorado, Colorado Mesa and Rogers State along with draws against Central Oklahoma and Southwest Baptist. Kennedy Weaver is the leading scorer for the Jets, recording three goals and four assists along with 10 shots on goal. She has two match-winning goals this season. Jackie Lari has been the primary goalie for the Jets, making 25 saves and allowing zero goals. 

6. The No. 14 Bronchos are 4-0-2 on the season and will host Rogers State on Friday before facing NSU. Kelsie Eason and Asha Haile both have scored six goals this season, with Eason adding four assists. Haile is the team leader in shots on goal with 12 and also has two match-winning goals. Kaitlyn Asher has played four matches in net, making 16 saves.

Up Next: The RiverHawks will return to Tahlequah for MIAA matchups with Central Missouri on Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. and Missouri Southern on Oct. 6 at 1 p.m.
