EDMOND – Three RiverHawks scored in double-digits on Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough as Central Oklahoma took the 67th meeting between the two programs, 83-63, in Edmond.
Shae Sanchez led the RiverHawks in scoring for the third straight game, scoring 14 points and going 5-10 from the field. The junior matched her season high with five steals on the UCO offense.
Cenia Hayes was a board short of her third double-double this year finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds, while
Morgan Hellyer had 10 points and five rebounds.
NSU and Central traded the lead in the first few minutes of the game, but the Bronchos started to pull away, as they went on a 9-2 run to take an 18-13 lead at the end of the quarter.
The RiverHawks started the second quarter with momentum, going on a 9-3 run thanks to two layups from Hellyer, a jumper from Sanchez, and a layup from
Cielo McClain to tie the game with 7:04 remaining in the quarter. Central then went on a 20-6 run that would span the remainder of the quarter to take a 41-27 lead into the half.
Coming out of the break, UCO hit back-to-back three pointers to open up a 20-point lead.
Morgan Lee then hit a layup off a pass from McClain, who would then record a steal at the other end before dishing to
Britney Ho for the easy layup. The Bronchos would end the quarter with a 65-46 lead thanks in part to five treys.
In the fourth quarter, the teams traded buckets, though NSU did score seven unanswered points late when
Zaria Collins hit a layup with 2:30 remaining. UCO would miss a three at the other end, which
Tree Brooks would grab and dish to Sanchez, who would score the layup.
Brooks would make a layup off a Broncho turnover with 1:23 to go to cut the lead to 81-62. McClain hit a free throw with just under a minute to go, but the run would end when the Bronchos made a layup with 39 seconds remaining.
The loss drops the RiverHawks to a 4-11 record this season, with a conference record of 2-6. The Bronchos improve to 13-3 this season, with a 7-1 record in MIAA play.
NSU will be back on the court Saturday in Wichita to face new Newman at 1:30 p.m.
