Elbon leads NSU to two wins

TAHLEQUAH – Addie Elbon powered the RiverHawks to a pair of wins Friday as they bested Doane 6-0 and walked-off Kansas Wesleyan 4-3 in the nightcap. The junior was a triple short of the cycle in the opener with two RBI and hit the game-winner in game two.

How it Happened
Addie Elbon hit a solo homer to right for the first of three runs in the opening frame with one out. The RiverHawks would load the bases with three straight walks before Addy Wolfe scored two more on a single up the middle.

After three scoreless innings, NSU got its fourth run on a Jess Schuler sac fly to score Elbon in from third.

In the sixth, back-to-back doubles from Cameron Conrad and Elbon gave the RiverHawks a 6-0 advantage on the Tigers.

  • Young won her fourth start in a row and struck out eight batters, one short of matching her career-high.
  • The third multi-RBI game this season for Elbon.

How it Happened
In the RiverHawks struck with three runs in the opening inning with Sierra Crick sending two home on a double. Jess Schuler followed up with a ground out RBI. 

The Coyotes grabbed a run back in the second off a solo homer to center and tied the game in the fourth with a pair of two-out ground balls. The first run came on an out to second, and the tying run was a single that squeaked into left field.

KWU threatened to plate the go-ahead run in the sixth and managed to get runners on second and third with one out. Brittany Beaudet who came in at the start of the fifth worked out of the jam with a ground out and a liner to right. 

A leadoff walk in the seventh came around to benefit NSU in the seventh with Reilly Hunt coming in to draw a five-pitch base-on-balls. An infield single put the tying run on second before a fielder's choice got the runner to third. Elbon would hit the first pitch to the center field hole to score pitch runner Madeline McIntyre in for the game-winner. 

Inside the Box Score

  • Sydney Balderrama started the game and went four innings.
  • The RiverHawks didn't record its second hit until the fourth. 
  • Sierra Crick went 2-for-3 with a run scored. 

Up Next: Northeastern State will play Haskell Indian Nations and Bacone on Saturday, first pitch will be at 10 a.m. at RiverHawks Park.
