ST. JOSEPH, Mo. --
Isaiah Davis caught two touchdown passes and rushed for one, but the RiverHawks stumbled with seven turnovers to fall 57-24 Saturday evening at Missouri Western.
The RiverHawks had the game within two possessions in the third quarter, but a 24 point swing by the Griffons due to turnovers would drop them to 2-5 overall (2-5 MIAA).
Davis paced the RiverHawks' offense with 107 yards off five pass receptions and ran for 42 yards. Â
The Griffons (3-4, 3-4 MIAA) struck first, scoring on their second drive of the game on a nine-play, 67-yard drive. Northeastern State evened the score at the start of the second quarter on a 26-yard pass to Davis. Â

Missouri Western scored, and on the ensuing drive to and following punts by both teams, the RiverHawks would fumble the ball for the first time this season, giving the ball on the NSU 27 yard line. The NSU defense would force the Griffons to take a field goal to go up 17-7.Â
NSU's offense would turn the ball over for the third time of the half on the next drive giving the Griffons the ball on their own 34 yard line. For the second time, the defense limited the Griffons to a field goal to take a 20-7 lead with under a minute left in the first half.
The RiverHawks needed two plays to get inside the red zone, and with 21 seconds left and needing 15 yards for a TD, they would turn the ball over for the third time. Missouri Western's runback on the pick was enough to get them into field goal territory to take a 23-7 lead at the half.Â
On the second half's opening drive, the RiverHawks would go three-and-out, and their punt would give the Griffons the ball at mid-field. For the fourth time, NSU's defense would hold Missouri Western to a field goal in the red zone to limit the damage but extend their lead to 26-7 at the 11:18 mark in the third quarter.
Northeastern State traded points on the next drive with a field goal of their own on a 42-yard kick from
Tyler Crawford. However, Missouri Western returned the ball for 99 yards on the kickoff for a touchdown to go up 33-10 with 7:50 left in the third quarter.
Davis would score his second touchdown of the game on a 3rd-and-7 play from 55 yards to make it a 33-17 game with 6:34 left in the third quarter. The Griffons would be halted on the ensuing drive for a fifth time by the NSU defense to kick their fifth field goal of the night, taking a 36-17 lead.Â
The RiverHawks would commit interceptions in their next two drives resulting in back-to-back touchdowns to ice the contest going up 50-17 with under two left in the third quarter.
Northeastern State out-gained the Griffons 456 to 313 in yardage, but six turnovers would result in 243 yards in favor of Missouri Western and 26 points.
Grant Elerick and
Jacob Frazier both threw touchdown passes.Â
Mark Wheeland saw a three-game streak of at least 100 reception yards end and was limited to 36 on two catches.Â
Antonio Johnson and
Jamie Cortez had sacks for the NSU defense.Â
The RiverHawks return home on Oct. 23 to face Northwest Missouri at 1 p.m.
