Women's Tennis wraps up ITA Regional

EDMOND -- Maria Popova reached the ITA Central Region Round of 16 in singles, and Northeastern State had two doubles teams reach the Main Draw Consolation semifinals this past weekend in Edmond. 

Popova beat players from Northwest Missouri and Newman Friday to reach the round of 16.  In the round of 16, she would fall to Augustana, 6-1, 6-3. 

Vera Carvalho advanced past the opening in the singles main draw, beating Southern Arkansas 6-2, 6-0.  She would later fall on Friday afternoon to Newman in three sets. 

In the singles Main Draw B, Belinda Jayaprakash handed Nebraska-Kearney a quick 6-0, 6-1 decision.  However, she would be eliminated by Missouri Western in the following round 6-3, 6-1.

Newcomer Alisha Moldakhmetova won twice in the Main Draw B Consolation bracket beating Missouri Western and Central Oklahoma.  In the semifinals, she would fall 8-2 to Lexi Walls of Central Oklahoma. 

After falling in the opening round of the doubles main draw, Kristela Vidnere and Maria Popova won three times, advancing to the semifinals where they would be edged 6-4 by Nebraska-Kearney.    Melissa Vera and Vera Carvalho won in the consolation quarterfinals before falling to UCO, 7-5. 

In the doubles Main Draw B, Jayaprakash and Moldakhmetova won in the round of 16 over Ouachita Baptist, 8-5, but later fell 8-3 Nebraska-Kearney in the quarterfinals. 

The RiverHawks close out their fall season this week by hosting the Rumble by the River on Friday and Saturday.
