TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State will face Southern Nazarene in the postseason for the first time since 1996 in Friday's GAC/MIAA Tournament Semifinal in Bethany.
The Crimson Storm earned hosting honors for the tournament after winning its first GAC/MIAA Regular season crown by two points with a 9-3 conference mark.
For Northeastern State (9-9, 7-5 GAC/MIAA), their only pathway to the NCAA postseason is to win the GAC/MIAA Tournament to earn an automatic berth.
Jason Rivera and
Flynn Semmerling lead NSU with six goals;
Sam Scarth is second in points with 12 (3g-6a). Northeastern State has seven shoutouts on the season, good for second-most in the conference.
History with the Crimson Storm (12-6, 9-3 GAC/MIAA)
The NSU/SNU rivalry is the oldest and fiercest series for Northeastern State, dating back to 1981. Southern Nazarene largely controlled the NAIA history of the series, winning 27 of the first 30 contests. Northeastern State has dominated the recent history, winning 20 of the last 24 games. In the postseason, the two teams met in the NAIA District IX playoffs five times, with SNU holding a 3-2 mark.
