Men's Soccer falls in GAC/MIAA Tournament Finals

BETHANY -- Northeastern State's season came to a heartbreaking end Sunday with a 2-0 loss to Fort Hays State in the GAC/MIAA Championship.  All the scoring came in the second half for the Tigers, who earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

On Friday evening, the RiverHawks found their way into its second consecutive GAC/MIAA Tournament Final by upending top-seeded Southern Nazarene 3-0.

The first half was all defense and with only one short on-target by either team.  Fort Hays State launched an attack in the 39th minute to the far right side of the goal but was stopped by a diving Brett Ekperuoh.  The Tigers held a 7-to-3 shot advantage through the first 45 minutes.

Fort Hays State (13-5-2) quickly landed a blow to the RiverHawks in the second half, with the Tigers scoring in the third minute out of the intermission.  In the 67th minute, the Tigers struck again on a header that went just right of NSU's keeper on the far right of the net.

Northeastern State finished the contest with a 13-to-11 shot advantage, with NSU taking ten shots in the second half.  On corners, NSU held a 9-to-5 advantage as well.  However, they were limited to two on-target shots.

Jason Rivera led the team with three shots, and Ekperuoh had two saves.

The RiverHawks' season ends with a 10-10 overall mark.
