TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State forced 33 turnovers as they had no problem handling Bacone 89-33 Wednesday evening in their home opener.
Maleeah Langstaff recorded her second consecutive double-double with 18-points and 15-rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
The RiverHawks had four others in double-figures, with
Jessica Barrow having 14,
Ashton Hackler scored 13 off the bench,
Maegan Lee put up 12, and
Morgan Lee put in 11 with seven steals.
Northeastern State (2-1) led for nearly the entire game and shot 40.2-percent (33-82) but didn't find their rhythm from long-range, going 2-for-27.
The RiverHawks had ten players in the scoring column in the first half, and despite shooting 38.1-percent through the first 20 minutes, they did quick work to put away Bacone. A bucket on their final possession prevented Bacone from going scoreless in the second quarter as Northeastern State carried a 47-11 lead into the intermission. The RiverHawks forced 24 turnovers by the half and out-scored Bacone 28-to-0 on miscues.
NSU's lead continued to expand in the second half out to as many as 58 points as they finished the night with 62 rebounds, their most since 2008. The RiverHawks won on the glass by 35 and had a 37-to-2 advantage on points of turnovers.
Courtney Lee had seven points, and seven rebounds, and
Patrycja Pawlata played six minutes and had six rebounds.
Bacone falls to 1-11 with the loss.
Northeastern State will be at Oklahoma Baptist Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip-off in Shawnee.
