The Setup

  • Thursday's MIAA opener is set up with two teams that defend the three-pointer well and don't turn the ball over much.  The RiverHawks hold the lowest three-point percentage defense in the MIAA at 24%, while the Bearcats have allowed only 16.   Northwest is third in the MIAA with 12.2 turnovers per game, and NSU is just in front with 11.8 per game.
  • Northeastern State has won its last two MIAA openers and is 6-3 since joining the association in 2012.
  • The RiverHawks have played only one game this season at home.
  • With just four games scheduled in December, it is the calm before the storm when 2022 hits, with the RiverHawks playing ten in January with six home games on tap.

Storylines

  • Zaria Collins has scored at least 20 points in the last two games and has an eight-game streak of scoring in double figures.  The junior recorded her fifth career double-double at Texas A&M-Commerce and is tied for seventh in the MIAA, averaging 18.5 points per game this season.
  • Maleeah Langstaff is one of five players in the MIAA averaging a double-double with 12.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.  The senior is one of the top blockers in the nation 13 this season and is ranked 15th nationally.   Langstaff recorded an MIAA high five blocks at Texas A&M-Commerce.
  • Jessica Barrow has started the last four games for the RiverHawks is one of four players averaging double-figures this season.   Barrow is third in the MIAA in three-point percentage (44.8%) and is fourth with 13 three pointers made.
  • Morgan Lee leads the RiverHawks with 82 games played with 54 starts.  Against Bacone this season, Lee had a career-high seven steals, which is second-most in a game in the MIAA this season and tied for fifth-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball.   Her twin-sister Maegan Lee is fourth on the NSU roster averaging ten points per game this season.  The RiverHawks have a third Lee in true-freshman Courtney Lee, who is not related to the Lee Twins and has seen the floor in all six games.
  • Northeastern State's 62 team rebounds against Bacone is an MIAA high tied for ninth-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball this season.
  • The RiverHawks are entering their tenth season as members of the MIAA and 25th season as an NCAA Division II program.
  • In October, Northeastern State was picked to finish in 11th place in both the MIAA Coaches and Media Polls.
