WICHITA, Kan. -- Northeastern State battled from behind twice to close the regular season with a 4-3 win Saturday afternoon at Newman.
Flynn Semmerling scored the eventual game-winner for the RiverHawks on a penalty kick goal in the 72nd minute. Â The goal is his sixth of the season and 31st overall.Â
Saturday's contest didn't end without drama, as Newman (1-15-1, 1-10-1 GAC/MIAA) who was already eliminated from the postseason play and was called for three red cards in the final six minutes.Â
Luan Lamas scored early for the RiverHawks on a double assist play from
Jason Rivera and
Jack Barrier in the 3rd minute. Â
Newman would come back with an equalizer in the 26th and a second goal less than two minutes later.Â
Out of the half,
Blake Dumond tied the game at 2-2, scoring in the 50th minute, but that was short-lived, and Newman scored 62 seconds later to take a 3-2 advantage.Â
Ryan McCully gave NSU its second equalizer of the game in the 59th minute on passes from Dumond and
Sam Scarth. Â
The RiverHawks tripled Newmans shot total with 21. Â Newman had a 7-to-6 edge in corners.Â
Northeastern State closes out their regular season with a 9-9 mark and 7-5 in conference play; they will advance to the GAC/MIAA Tournament, where they will face hosts Southern Nazarene on Friday, Nov. 12.
