EMPORIA, Kan. -- Northeastern State's season would come to a close Sunday afternoon at the hands of #2-seeded Emporia State, 3-0, in the opening round of the MIAA Women's Soccer Tournament.
Playing without two starters, the RiverHawks kept the Hornets scoreless until the 55th-minute of the contest.
Emporia State (16-2-1) would score a second goal two minutes later and a third in the final minutes of the quarterfinal.
The RiverHawks would have an 11-to-8 shot advantage but would have only one that was on-target.
Myka Heimbach paced NSU with three shots taken.
Of the eight-team bracket, all four of the quarterfinal hosts won Sunday with top-seeded Central Missouri hosting the remainder of the tournament.
Northeastern State's season ends with an 8-8-3 mark and qualifying for their ninth consecutive MIAA Tournament.
