The Setup

  • Northeastern State is looking to halt a pair of four-game skids Saturday.  The RiverHawks haven't won at Missouri Western since 2013 and have lost four consecutive games.
  • Northeastern State is looking to avoid a 0-2 start to MIAA play for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
  • The RiverHawks have played only one game this season at home.
  • With just four games scheduled in December, it is the calm before the storm when 2022 hits, with the RiverHawks playing ten in January with six home games on tap.

Storylines

  • Zaria Collins has a nine-game streak of scoring in double figures and had a double-double in the last two games.  The junior is second in the MIAA with 99 field-goal attempts and ninth with 37 made buckets. 
  • Maleeah Langstaff is leading the MIAA with 14 blocks this season which is also 17th highest nationally.  The senior is among the MIAA leaders with 7.1 defensive rebounds per game and sixth in the association with 9.6 rebounds per game. 
  • Jessica Barrow has started the last five games for the RiverHawks is one of three players averaging double-figures this season.    Barrow is second in the MIAA in three-point percentage (46.7%) and fifth with 43 three-pointers. 
  • Morgan Lee leads the RiverHawks with 83 games played with 55 starts.  Against Bacone this season, Lee had a career-high seven steals, which is second-most in a game in the MIAA this season and tied for fifth-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball.   She leads the MIAA with 15 steals. Her twin-sister Maegan Lee is fourth on the NSU roster averaging 9.7 points per game this season.  The RiverHawks have a third Lee in true-freshman Courtney Lee, who is not related to the Lee Twins and has seen the floor in all six games.
  • After missing the first six games due to injury, true-freshman Jaylee Kindred made her career debut Thursday evening.
  • Northeastern State's 62 team rebounds against Bacone is an MIAA high tied for ninth-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball this season.
  • The RiverHawks are entering their tenth season as members of the MIAA and 25th season as an NCAA Division II program.  
  • In October, Northeastern State was picked to finish in 11th place in both the MIAA Coaches and Media Polls.

About Missouri Western

  • Missouri Western is one of 23 teams in NCAA Division II to not suffer a loss this season. 
  • The Griffons are out-rebounding teams by 12.8 per game, the eighth largest in the nation, with Connie Clarke, ranked 16th nationally with 11.8 rebounds per game.  On the offensive glass, which leads the MIAA with 4.4 rebounds per game. 
  • Missouri Western has won four games in double figures and is a win away from matching their previous season's win total. 
  • Led in scoring by Corbyn Cunningham (15.2 ppg), who missed the majority of the previous season due to injury, she was a 2020 All-MIAA First Team selection.

  • Northeastern State's win snapped a seven game skid to the Griffons.
  • Zaria Collins led NSU's returning group with a 19 point effort and played the full 40 minutes. 
  • The RiverHawks were sent to the line a season-high 28 times, and the 82 points were tied for the most in regulation during the 2020-21 season.

Series Notes

  • Northeastern State has lost four straight at Missouri Western with their last win coming on Feb. 2, 2013 (73-56), the largest win margin for the RiverHawks.
  • In 14 meetings, NSU has averaged 59.7 points per game against Missouri Western.  The Griffons have averaged 66.9 points when facing the RiverHawks.
  • There have been no postseason meetings between the two programs.
  • The RiverHawks won six of the first seven meetings.
