Opening Tip 
  • The RiverHawks played the last two games without head coach Ja Havens due to COVID-19 protocols.  Lucas Hunter led NSU in the interim; he was the lone coach available on the Feb. 11 game vs. Nebraska-Kearney
  • Retired head coach Larry Gipson (1997-2014) supervised practices for the program while the entire coaching staff was under COVID-19 protocols. 
  • Luck has not been with the RiverHawks in several games this season, with nine losses coming inside of ten points and two overtime setbacks. 
  • The RiverHawks have started the same five in the last ten games.  However, for the first time since the 2015-16 season, NSU will not have a player start every game this season.
  • Newman is the RiverHawks' last win this season.  Troy Locke has averaged over ten points a game in three contests with the Jets and is shooting 54-percent on the floor. 
  • NSU's freshman scored 29 of their 72 points in the last game against Newman.  Christian Cook led the team with 20 points.
  • Injuries, COVID-19, and personnel changes have limited the NSU roster this season.  Three of NSU's original starting five are out of the season.  Two players are out of the year due to injury, and three active players have missed a combined 11 games.   Additionally, NSU played two games without its head coach.

The Series with Newman
  • Northeastern State has won four straight over the Jets and our 3-0 against them in MIAA play.
  • The RiverHawks don't have much history playing Newman on their home floor and are 1-1.   NSU has played neutral site contests hosted by Newman in 1984 and 1985 where they went 2-2.  One of those contests was against current MIAA
  • foe Fort Hays State. 
  • In Tahlequah, Northeastern State is 6-0 when facing the Jets. 
  • Head Coach Ja Havens has not faced Newman. 
About the Jets
  • The Jets have lost its last 12 games and are 2-7 this season at home.
  • Newman was the lone MIAA men's contest on Tuesday evening and they played a make-up game at Missouri Western.  The Jets would lose that game, 86-75.
  • Thursday's game is homecoming for Newman University.  
  • Ranked last in the MIAA in scoring at 66.8 points per game which is 20th lowest nationally. 
  • Teams are shooting 49-percent this season against the Jets which is last in the MIAA and 19th highest nationally. 
  • Joel Boyce leads the Jets in scoring with 13.7 points per game.
Scheduling Shuffle
  • Three of the next five games in the regular season are a result of COVID-19 postponements.
  • The final week of the regular season will season NSU could play five games in seven days to play the full 22 game schedule. 
  • A makeup date with Emporia State has not been set yet. 
  • In the 22 games regular-season schedule, the RiverHawks will have six that were postponed.
  • The Feb. 22-23 games are both reschedule dates but played at two different locations.
