HOW IT HAPPENED
NSU struck first with three runs in the first. Following back-to-back walks to lead off the game, Phipps drove in the first run of the game with two down on a sharp single up the middle. White, the very next batter, drove in two with a knock up the middle himself.
Â
In the second both teams added a run. The Bearcats' was unearned while
Blaze Brothers socked a home run over the left field wall in NSU's half.
Â
C.D. White drove in another un in the third on yet another single up the middle to score
Blake Freeman who had pulled a double down the left field line with one out.
Â
Neither team plated a run until the Bearcats had back-to-back two-out singles to left field running NSU starter
Nic Swanson from the game in the seventh. He threw 113 pitches in his 6.2 innings of work allowing just one earned run while striking out 10.
Â
The RiverHawks' shortstop
Collin Klingensmith homered to left for some two-out offense to maintain the three-run cushion.
Â
In the eighth, Phipps led off with a solo shot to left. After two outs were recorded,
Corbin Lill, in his first start of the season singled before Fehr homered to left field himself to give NSU the 9-3 lead.
Â
The Bearcats got a hit in the top of the ninth but could not cut into the lead.
