DURANT – Northeastern State dropped a pitching-dominated game 2-1 in 11 innings at Southeastern Tuesday afternoon. The RiverHawks used a pitcher an inning to limit the Savage Storm to seven hits but their bats never quite found a groove with just four base knocks.
THE BASICS
Final score: Southeastern 2, Northeastern State 1
NSU pitcher of record:
Konner Neal (0-1)
Records: Northeastern State 10-5 (8-4 in MIAA), Southeastern 11-6 (7-5 in GAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Blaze Brothers led off the game with a double on a high pop up that was lost in the wind over third base.
Blake Freeman beat out an infield single but Brothers, who was off on contact, was thrown out trying to score.
Â
The first run of the game did not come until SOSU's designated hitter Colton Buckner lined a one out home run over the left center wall in the sixth.
Â
NSU, a team that has a knack to score late, pushed a run across in the top of the ninth.
Brayden Rodden reached on a throw that pulled the first baseman off the bag and
Collin Klingensmith walked to put two on. Rodden advanced to third on a grounder to shortstop and scored on a wild pitch to knot the game at 1-1.
Â
NSU's
Dakodah Jones and
Cohen Bell set the Savage Storm down in order in the ninth and tenth.
Â
In the tenth inning, Klingensmith reached on another throwing error by the SOSUÂ shortstop but was thrown out from the warning track trying to tag from first on a Freeman fly ball.
Â
The Savage Storm loaded the bases with no outs on a single up the middle and back-to-back walks in the bottom of the eleventh. They were able to lift a ball into the right center gap for a run to score on the sacrifice fly.
