RiverHawks blast Rogers State 15-1 in seven innings

CLAREMORE -- Collin Klingensmith hit a grand slam and the RiverHawks blasted Rogers State 15-1 in seven innings Saturday to take the first game of the three-game series in Claremore.

Reid Fehr had a 4-for-4 day at the plate as the RiverHawks out-hit the Hillcats 13-to-2 and improved to 17-7 overall and 14-5 in the MIAA.

NSU escaped an early jam in the first with Rogers State loading the baes with no-outs.  RiverHawks' starter Seth Key worked out of it allowing just a sacrifice fly.

After a scoreless inning, the RiverHawks poured in the runs on the Hillcats with Collin Klingensmith emptying the bases with a grand slam to right-center.   In the fourth, a defensive collapse by RSU with three errors allowed for four more runs to cross home plate.

The scoring continued in the fifth with Blaze Brothers plating two more runs on a single.  Blake Freeman added more runs with a double to right to bring in pair of batters.  Jaxon Phipps made it a 13-1 game with a sac fly ball to right before C.D. White scored the team's 14th run on a double to left-center.

White scored the team's 15th run on a single up the middle to send Blake Freeman home.

Seth Key (3-0) tossed a two-hitter, striking out seven batters on 112 pitches.

The Hillcats fall to 12-11 overall and 9-10 in the MIAA with the loss.
