TAHLEQUAH -- Emporia State scored two goals in the opening 16 minutes to hand the RiverHawks a 2-1 loss in their spring season opener Friday evening at Doc Wadley Stadium.
The RiverHawks gave up two early goals before
Hayley Garcia scored off a throw in from
Myka Heimbach on a kick from left of the keeper in the 25th minute. Northeastern State did have an opportunity for a second goal but they kick would hit off the top crossbar.
In the second half shots were even at five with the RiverHawks failing to connect on two corner kicp opportunities.
Heimbach had three of the RiverHawks'nine shots.
ESU improves to 4-0 overall with the win.
Northeastern State will travel to Central Missouri on Sunday for 1 p.m. kickoff to open up MIAA pod play.
