Softball's bats silent in loss to Nebraska-Kearney

KEARNEY, Neb. – Northeastern State was shutout for just the third time this spring in a 1-0 setback to open the doubleheader at Nebraska-Kearney.
 
The loss brings NSU's record to 21-15-1 and back to .500 in MIAA play at 9-9-1.
 
UNK led off the third inning with a hit by pitch and played small ball to move the runner to third base with two outs. A double brought home the game's lone run.
 
Addy Wolfe had NSU's first hit of the game to lead off the fifth. Carly Kelley reached on an error to put two runners on but the Lopers pitcher navigated out of the jam.
 
In the seventh Chloe Bohuslavicky led off by reaching on an error. Pinch runner Keeli Welden advanced to third on a passed ball and fly out right field but couldn't score the tying run.
 
Alyssia Crick and Cameron Conrad were the RiverHawks only other base runners via walks.
 
Gail Young (13-8) threw her 18th complete game of the season and allowed just five hits.
 
Nebraska-Kearney improves to 13-22 and 4-15 in the conference.
