EDMOND – Northeastern State ended its spring season with a 4-1 loss to Missouri Western in the MIAA Quarterfinals Friday morning.
The RiverHawks started strong by winning a tight battle in doubles but could not maintain the momentum throughout singles.
The No. 2 pairing of
Vera Carvalho and
Melissa Vera quickly took their court 6-0. After the RiverHawks dropped court 3, a tight battle gave NSU the doubles point.
Kristela Vidnere and
Maria Popova went back and fourth on the top flight eventually emerging victorious 7-6(3) after a tiebreaker.
In singles, Missouri Western (12-5, 6-3 in MIAA) took control taking four-straight courts in straight sets for the win.
Melissa Vera,
Maria Popova and
Belinda Jayaprakash put up fights to take six or more games across their two sets.
NSU finished above .500 on No. 1 and No. 3 doubles as well as No. 4 and No. 5 in singles.
Northeastern State's season ended with the loss. They went 8-9 and 4-5 in the MIAA this spring and as the ITA Central Region No. 10 team.
