Myka Heimbach scored her first two career goals as the RiverHawks flew past Newman 3-0 Friday evening.
The RiverHawks (3-2-2) took the early lead in the seventh minute, with
Hayley Garcia sinking her second goal of the season.
Taking a 1-0 lead out of the half, Heimbach scored her first goal just 18 seconds into the return to play. Her second goal came off an NSU penalty kick block in the 88th minute to ice the match in favor of the RiverHawks.
Newman (0-4-1) nearly matched the RiverHawks in shots, 18-to-15, with
Brennan Hockett earning the shutout and tying her career mark for saves with nine.
Callie Rucker had two assists Friday, coming on the first two goals of the evening.
Northeastern State returns to the field Sunday to open MIAA play at home against Central Oklahoma at 1 p.m.
