TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State scored three unanswered goals and cruised to a 3-1 win over Ouachita Baptist in the RiverHawks home opener.
The victory Sunday is the 11th consecutive for the RiverHawks over the Tigers (0-1-1), who entered the season a preseason pick to win their conference title.
Payton Lieb scored her second goal of the week with the game-winner on a header in the 62nd minute of the contest.
Ouachita Baptist notched the first goal-scoring in the 16th minute on a shot from the top of the box and over the reach of NSU's goalkeeper. Hayley Garcia later provided an equalizer off a header from in front of the OBU goal on a pass from Callie Rucker.
Rucker later gave the RiverHawks their third tally unassisted off a bounce for her fourth NSU career goal.
The second half was littered with an onslaught of attacks by NSU, who out-shot the Tigers 14-to-4.
"I'm on cloud-9," said Lieb. "It feels good to have our first home game here and just a really good feeling for the team … it's what we have been working toward all preseason."
Northeastern State (1-1) returns to the field on Thursday, September 9, visiting Southwest Baptist for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
