The Setup

  • Northeastern State's five-game homestand continues Saturday, facing its closest MIAA foe in Rogers State.   It is the most accessible road trip for either program at 58.1 miles between the NSU Event Center and the Claremore Expo Center.

Last Time Out

Missouri Southern 78, at Northeastern State 62 | January 11, 2022 | Tahlequah 
  • Maleeah Langstaff led the RiverHawks with a career-high 24 points, but they would fall 78-62 to Missouri Southern Tuesday.
  • Northeastern State played catch-up for most of the game after shooting 15.8-percent in the second quarter.
  • After trailing 18-14 out of the opening quarter, Missouri Southern opened up the second stanza scoring 16 unanswered points pulling away by 20 with 2:35 left to the half.
  • The RiverHawks shot 37.1-percent and was limited to just one three-pointer on the night.

Scheduling Switch

  • Due to COVID postponing two games for the RiverHawks three upcoming dates have been changed on the upcoming schedule.  NSU will host Nebraska-Kearney on Jan. 25 (was Jan. 3) and Fort Hays State on Feb. 7 (was Jan. 1).  The RiverHawks will play at Pitt State on Jan. 27, one day later than previously scheduled.

Storylines

  • Zaria Collins holds the MIAA's ninth highest-scoring average per game this season at 15.3 and has scored at least ten points in 11 of the last 13 games.  
  • Maleeah Langstaff is among the top-100 in the nation in six statistical categories this season and is fifth in the MIAA, shooting 51.5-percent from the field.  The senior is among the MIAA leaders with 6.7 defensive rebounds per game and third in the association with 9.5 rebounds per game.  This season, Langstaff has four double-double games and is fourth among scorers in MIAA play with 18.6 points.
  • Morgan Lee leads the RiverHawks with 88 games played with 57 starts.  Against Bacone this season, Lee had a career-high seven steals, which is third-most in a game in the MIAA this season and tied for 12-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball.   Her twin-sister Maegan Lee is third on the NSU roster averaging 9.3 points per game this season.  The RiverHawks have a third Lee in true-freshman Courtney Lee, who is not related to the Lee Twins and has seen the floor in 11 games.
  • Ashton Hackler has started the last three games and has averaged 13.3 points in the previous four contests.  The true freshman has scored at least ten points per game in that same span.
  • After missing the first six games due to injury, true-freshman Jaylee Kindred made her career debut at Northwest Missouri and her first start at Central Oklahoma.  Kailyn Lay started and made her NSU debut against Pittsburg State on Dec. 12; she is tied for fourth in MIAA play with 4.0 assists per game. 
  • Northeastern State's 62 team rebounds against Bacone is an MIAA high tied for 17th-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball this season.
  • NSU has a 626 game streak of making at least one three-pointer.  Dec. 30, 1999, at Central Arkansas is the last time Northeastern State without making a trey.
  • The RiverHawks are entering their tenth season as members of the MIAA and 25th season as an NCAA Division II program.  
  • In October, Northeastern State was picked to finish in 11th place in both the MIAA Coaches and Media Polls.

About Rogers State

  • Due to COVID protocols, the Hillcats have had a game at Newman postponed twice last weekend and will have a week off since playing. 
  • Rogers State heads into Saturday's contest with Northeastern State on a nine-game skid.  It is the second-longest in their program history (13 was longest in the 2018-19 season).
  • Bailey Kliewer leads the Hillcats in scoring with 14.0 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per outing. Tahlequah native Kloe Bowin has started in seven games for RSU and has averaged 5.4 points per game; she leads the Hillcats shooting 54.2-percent from the field.
  • This season, the Hillcats allow 72.7 points per game, second-most in the MIAA.  In MIAA play, they have allowed 77.3 points per game and have been outscored by 16 per game. 

Last Time They Met

Rogers State 62, Northeastern State 59 | February 27, 2021 | Tahlequah
  • The RiverHawks had two players with 20 point games, but a pair of late buckets by Rogers State ended Northeastern State's season with a 62-59 defeat.
  • Collins paced both teams with 23 points to lead the RiverHawks in scoring for the 11th time, and also grabbed 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. 
  • The RiverHawks went scoreless in the final 90 seconds of the game while RSU got a go-ahead bucket with 1:17 left.  In the last seconds of the game, a turnover by NSU allowed the Hillcats to get a layup before the buzzer to ice the game and sweep the season series.

Northeastern State leads series 5-4 | 2-2 at home | 3-2 in Claremore 
  • This is the eighth consecutive season that the two teams will meet.
  • Rogers State holds a 3-1 advantage over NSU while playing as MIAA members. 
  • The three game win streak for Rogers State over the RiverHawks is the longest in their series history with NSU. 
  • All four of the Hillcats' wins have been within single digits.
