RiverHawks unable to overcome cold shooting in loss to Rogers State

TAHLEQUAH – The RiverHawks had three in double-figures, but they couldn't overcome cold shooting and turnovers in a 63-56 loss to Rogers State Saturday afternoon.

Northeastern State (3-11, 1-7 MIAA) shot 34.3-percent and committed 14 turnovers which RSU outscored the RiverHawks 14-to-7 on miscues.

Maleeah Langstaff paced NSU for the sixth time this season with a game-high 17 points and was a rebound short of her fifth double-double with nine.

Zaria Collins had 12 points and nine rebounds.  Ashton Hackler recorded her fifth consecutive double-digit game with 11 points.

Kailyn Lay dished out nine assists, the most for a player since 2019, and had five points.

The RiverHawks were within three (49-46) with 6:15 left in regulation before the Hillcats hit a critical run of five unanswered points in the following 2:31 for their most significant margin of the afternoon.

Playing from behind, an and-one bucket with 39 seconds remaining got NSU back to within five and managed to force a Hillcat quick turnover.  However, NSU turned the ball over back to Rogers State, forcing them to foul to extend the game.  Rogers State would ice its fourth consecutive win over NSU at the free-throw line.

Northeastern State out-rebounded its foe for the sixth time this season 42-to-37 on the Hillcats.

Bailey Kliewer led the Hillcats with 13 points, as they moved to 5-12 (1-9 MIAA).

The RiverHawks remain home to host Central Missouri on Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m.
