The Setup

  • Northeastern State will host Lincoln for the fifth time Saturday, seeking to halt a three game skid.
  • Lincoln will be looking to halt a four game skid to Northeastern State and its first MIAA road win since 2018. 

Last Time Out

Central Missouri 82, at Northeastern State 54 | January 21, 2022 | Tahlequah 
  • Northeastern State didn't have many answers to slow down Central Missouri's offense Thursday night as they fell 82-54 inside the NSU Event Center. 
  • The Jennies shot 59.6-percent (31-52) against the RiverHawks and were 8-for-11 from long range.
  • Maleeah Langstaff paced the RiverHawks for the seventh time this season with a career-high 25 points and recorded her fifth double-double on the season with 13 boards.
  • The RiverHawks shot 32.7-percent (18-55) and was outrebounded by six with 29.

Scheduling Switch

  • Due to COVID postponing two games for the RiverHawks three upcoming dates have been changed on the upcoming schedule.  NSU will host Nebraska-Kearney on Jan. 25 (was Jan. 3) and Fort Hays State on Feb. 7 (was Jan. 1).  The RiverHawks will play at Pitt State on Jan. 27, one day later than previously scheduled.

Storylines

  • Zaria Collins holds the MIAA's ninth highest-scoring average per game this season at 15.0 and has scored at least ten points in 12 of the last 14 games.  
  • Maleeah Langstaff is among the top-100 in the nation in eight statistical categories this season and is third in the MIAA, shooting 51.9-percent from the field.  The senior is among the MIAA leaders with 6.5 defensive rebounds per game and second in the association with 9.8 rebounds per game.  This season, Langstaff has five double-double games and is second among scorers in MIAA play with 19.3 points.
  • Morgan Lee leads the RiverHawks with 90 games played with 58 starts.  Against Bacone this season, Lee had a career-high seven steals, which is third-most in a game in the MIAA this season and tied for 12-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball.   Her twin-sister Maegan Lee is third on the NSU roster averaging 9.2 points per game this season.  The RiverHawks have a third Lee in true-freshman Courtney Lee, who is not related to the Lee Twins and has seen the floor in 14 games.
  • Ashton Hackler has started the last four games and has averaged 10.7 points in the previous six contests.  
  • After missing the first six games due to injury, true-freshman Jaylee Kindred made her career debut at Northwest Missouri and her first start at Central Oklahoma.  Kailyn Lay started and made her NSU debut against Pittsburg State on Dec. 12; she is third in MIAA play with 4.8 assists per game. 
  • Northeastern State's 62 team rebounds against Bacone is an MIAA high tied for 17th-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball this season.
  • NSU has a 628 game streak of making at least one three-pointer.  Dec. 30, 1999, at Central Arkansas is the last time Northeastern State without making a trey.
  • The RiverHawks are entering their tenth season as members of the MIAA and 25th season as an NCAA Division II program.  
  • In October, Northeastern State was picked to finish in 11th place in both the MIAA Coaches and Media Polls.

About Lincoln

  • Lincoln comes into Saturday's game, dropping its last six road contests, and they have lost their previous 34 MIAA road games dating back to Dec. 6, 2018 (69-66 at Northwest Missouri).  In MIAA play this season, the Blue Tigers are being outscored by 23.3 per game and average 53.8 points. 
  • The Blue Tigers are third in the MIAA, averaging 12.3 offensive rebounds per game and fifth in steals per game (9.0).   Per contest, they generate 15 points off of their opponent's turnovers. 
  • Le'Yanna McGinnis is Lincoln's leading scorer with 9.8 points per game. The Blue Tigers have five other players averaging just around seven points.
  • Lincoln has four players on their roster who are transfers from the College of Central Florida, which was the previous stop for the LU head coach Andrea Mize.

  • The RiverHawks withstood a game-tying buzzer-beater in regulation by Lincoln, and Zaria Collins broke a 29-year-old record Saturday as Northeastern State won a drag out 89-79 double-overtime road battle.  
  • Collins paced both teams with a career-high 26 points and took 29 shots against the Blue Tigers, surpassing the previous mark by three, which was set by Stacy Johnson on Jan. 22, 1992.

  • NSU's four game win streak in the series is the longest for either team.
  • The 2021 meeting in Jefferson City was NSU's first double overtime contest since Nov. 16, 2013 against Drury.
  • The teams first met in Emporia Nov. 16, 1984 and then they did not play each other for 28 seasons.
