TAHLEQUAH – Behind a double-double effort from
Emeka Obukwelu, Northeastern State snapped a four-game skid and handed Lincoln a 59-50 loss on Saturday evening inside the NSU Event Center.
The win sends the RiverHawks back to .500 overall (9-9) and is 4-8 in MIAA play.
Obukwelu turned in his sixth 20 point effort with a game-high 21 points and netted 12 rebounds for the graduate student's fifth double-double of the year.
Tylor Arnold was NSU's second-leading scorer with ten points and six rebounds.
Christian Cook had nine points and five rebounds.
Lincoln pulled even with the RiverHawks at 14-14 midway through the first half before Northeastern State scored eight unanswered points. The run turned out to be enough for the NSU to take a 31-19 lead into the locker room.
Northeastern State had trouble closing the door on the Blue Tigers, and they pulled in within four (44-39) with 12:04 left in the game. The RiverHawks responded by forcing a pair of LU turnovers and a 6-0 run which was enough to net them a home win.
The RiverHawks shot 42.6-percent (20-47) on the floor and held Lincoln to 32.8-percent (19-58). Lincoln (1-13, 0-9 MIAA) out-rebounded NSU by one with 38 and had three players in double figures.
Northeastern State heads on the road to face Pittsburg State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
