The Setup

  • Northeastern State closes a five-game homestand on Tuesday with a makeup game with Nebraska-Kearney.  Tuesday's contest was originally scheduled for Jan. 3, but due to COVID protocols for NSU, it was rescheduled. 
  • Tuesday's game is the lone basketball game in the MIAA, and it will be RiverHawks' first meeting with a ranked school since Thanksgiving weekend, where they played (4/7) Texas A&M-Commerce. 

Last Time Out

at Northeastern State 86, Lincoln 64 | January 22, 2022 | Tahlequah 
  • It was a historic afternoon for Northeastern State's Maleeah Langstaff, who turned in the fifth triple-double in NCAA Division II Women's Basketball this season as the RiverHawks blew out Lincoln 86-64 on Saturday afternoon.
  • Langstaff had NSU's first 30 point game since 2016 with 32 points, 16 rebounds, and ten assists.   
  • Ashton Hackler was the RiverHawks' second-leading scorer with 15 points.  Maegan Lee had nine along with Jaylee Kindred who had a career best nine points and six rebounds.
  • The RiverHawks shot a season-best 53.3-percent (32-60) on the floor and dominated the paint 48-to-24 over the Blue Tigers. 

Storylines

  • Maleeah Langstaff is among the top-100 in the nation in ten statistical categories this season and is fourth in the MIAA, shooting 53.3-percent from the field.  The senior is among the MIAA leaders with 6.9 defensive rebounds per game and second in the association with 10.2 rebounds per game.  This season, Langstaff has six double-double games and is second among scorers in MIAA play with 20.9 points.
  • Zaria Collins holds the MIAA's ninth highest-scoring average per game this season at 15.0 and has scored at least ten points in 12 of the last 14 games.  
  • Morgan Lee leads the RiverHawks with 91 games played with 59 starts.  Against Bacone this season, Lee had a career-high seven steals, which is third-most in a game in the MIAA this season and tied for 12-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball.   Her twin-sister Maegan Lee is third on the NSU roster averaging 9.2 points per game this season.  The RiverHawks have a third Lee in true-freshman Courtney Lee, who is not related to the Lee Twins and has seen the floor in 15 games.
  • Ashton Hackler has started the last six games and has averaged 11.3 points in the previous seven contests.  
  • After missing the first six games due to injury, true-freshman Jaylee Kindred made her career debut at Northwest Missouri and her first start at Central Oklahoma.  Kailyn Lay started and made her NSU debut against Pittsburg State on Dec. 12; she is third in MIAA play with 4.8 assists per game. 
  • Northeastern State's 62 team rebounds against Bacone is an MIAA high tied for 17th-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball this season.
  • NSU has a 629 game streak of making at least one three-pointer.  Dec. 30, 1999, at Central Arkansas is the last time Northeastern State without making a trey.
  • The RiverHawks are entering their tenth season as members of the MIAA and 25th season as an NCAA Division II program.

About Nebraska-Kearney

  • Nebraska-Kearney makes the trek to Tahlequah, coming off a home loss to Missouri Southern (57-54) on Saturday.  The last time they suffered consecutive setbacks was at the end of the 2019-20 regular season, where they lost at Newman and Central Oklahoma. 
  • The Lopers have won its last ten regular-season road contests dating back to Jan. 30, 2021, at Fort Hays State (68-60). 
  • Nationally, UNK is tops in NCAA Division II women's basketball in limiting their turnovers at 10.7 per game, and its scoring defense is tops in the MIAA, allowing just 54.3 per game which is also 16th in the country. 
  • Elisa Backs is the lone Loper averaging in double-figures with 11.7 points per game.  The Lopers do share the scoring with six players scoring about eight points per outing.

  • Northeastern State held a two-point advantage at halftime but No. 15 Nebraska-Kearney executed its MIAA-leading defense in the second half. 
  • The RiverHawks battled back from an early 11-point deficit but could not find the answer in a second half that they were outscored 44-23.
  • Zaria Collins finished with eight points and led the team with eight rebounds.

  • The two programs have only met as members of the MIAA. 
  • Northeastern State has averaged 58.4 points in the 17 meetings with Lopers.
  • In the previous three meetings, the RiverHawks have led or tied with UNK at halftime.  Out of the intermission, the Lopers have outscored Northeastern State by an average of 18 in that span (130-76).
