WICHITA, Kan. – Turnovers and ten Newman three-pointers handed the RiverHawks a tough 75-66 road setback Saturday evening.
The loss drops NSU to 8-7 overall and 3-6 in the MIAA.
Emeka Obukwelu turned in his third double-double of the season with ten points and 20 rebounds.
Christian Cook recorded his seventh career 20 point performance with a team-high 20 points.
Ryan Gendron scored his first points in an NSU uniform with eight.
Rashad Perkins added seven.
The contest featured 12 lead changes and five ties, with the RiverHawks leading as many as nine with 9:32 left in the first half.
Northeastern State committed 18 turnovers which Newman cashed in for a 15-to-7 scoring advantage. The Jets' ten three-pointers matched their season-high, with Stevie Strong scoring 29 points and landing half of the team's three-point shots.
Newman snapped an eight-game skid to improve to 4-10 (1-8 MIAA).
Northeastern State shot 50.9-percent (29-57) from the field and was 4-14 from the arc. The Jets were 45.2-percent on their side of the court.
The RiverHawks head home to face Missouri Southern on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
