TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State will travel to Emporia State for the MIAA Tournament Quarterfinal Sunday afternoon for the second consecutive season.
The RiverHawks qualified for the MIAA Tournament for the tenth consecutive season and are the number-7 seed; Emporia will be the number-2 seed.
The pair have met in the previous three MIAA tournaments and the 2013 postseason.
Northeastern State finished the regular season with a 7-3-8 mark and was 4-3-4 in MIAA play. In the postseason awards, the team earned a trio of All-MIAA honors, with Kamari Jefferson (Def.), Myka Heimbach (MF), and Payton Lieb (F) being recognized.
Traditional overtime ten-minute periods return in the postseason with a shootout to determine the advancing team should the match remain in a draw following 20 minutes of extra time.
History with the Hornets (9-5-4, 7-1-3 MIAA)
Northeastern State holds a 7-6-2 overall record against the Hornets and is 4-3 on their home pitch. In the first meeting this season, Heimbach scored in the 88th minute as the RiverHawks came away with a 2-2 home draw.
