Central Oklahoma downs NSU to retain President’s Cup

EDMOND, Okla. (Oct. 6, 2022) – Central Oklahoma jumped early on Northeastern State and pulled away for a 55-6 win over the RiverHawks on Thursday night at Chad Richison Stadium.

UCO (4-2, 4-2 MIAA) retained the President's Cup – the trophy awarded to the winner of the annual football game between the in-state rivals – for an eighth straight year. It was the 81st meeting between the programs since the series began in 1912.

The Bronchos rolled up 476 yards of offense while limiting NSU (1-5, 1-5) to 200. For the second straight game, NSU played three quarterbacks, with Ben Ward being the top producer, completing 6 of 8 passes for 67 yards and the RiverHawks' only touchdown, a 9-yard pass to Da'Monn Sanders in the fourth quarter.

Malik Antwine had three catches for 43 yards to lead NSU's receivers, while the team's top rusher was Isaiah Davis, with 37 yards on 20 carries. Defensively, Chris Lee had six tackles for Northeastern State and Jaylen Scruggs and Johnny Jean had five each.

UCO quarterback Stephon Brown completed 13 of 18 passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns and rushed three times for 75 yards and two touchdowns. He scored on runs of 5 and 35 yards in the first quarter ahead of a 35-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Jason Harris. The Bronchos led 24-0 after the first quarter and 52-0 at halftime.

In the second quarter, Brown threw touchdown passes of 25 yards to Andrew Carney and 3 and 20 yards to Jacob Delso.

NSU will host Missouri Western on Oct. 15 in the Indigenous Peoples' Game at Gable Field in Tahlequah.
