TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (Nov. 25, 2022) –
Dillon Bailey went 6 of 9 from 3-point range and scored a career-high 30 points to lead Northeastern State to a 99-65 romp over NAIA foe Haskell Indian Nations (Kan.) on Friday night in the NSU Event Center.
Bailey, a sophomore guard from Bentonville, Ark., put on a show in front of a crowd of 2,890 fans who packed the facility for Native American Heritage Night. In addition to his 3-point prowess, he hit 11 of 14 shots overall and grabbed seven rebounds.
His first 3-pointer came 18 seconds into the game and NSU (3-1) never trailed. Haskell (3-7) tied the game on three occasions in the first half, the last at 23-23 on a basket by Trey Gaines with 7:01 left.
The RiverHawks responded with a 7-0 spurt, keyed by five points from
Christian Cook, and pulled away to lead 44-31 by halftime. The Fightin' Indians came no closer than nine points in the second half as NSU steadily built its lead to as many as 37 points.
Besides Bailey, three other RiverHawks scored in double figures – Cook with 15 points (to go with five assists and five rebounds) and
Rashad Perkins and
Jaxon Jones with 14 each. NSU shot a torrid 51.7 percent (15 from 29) from 3-point range as a team.
Gaines scored 17 points while Matthew Anderson added 10 for Haskell.
Now finished with nonconference play, NSU will open Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association play (and wrap up a five-game homestand) on Monday at home against Washburn (Kan.).
