TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State didn't shoot the ball well, but they came away from a 64-57 win Thursday evening over Newman.
The RiverHawks shot just 28.8-percent but was sent to the line 38 times, the most in the last five seasons, with Newman being called for 36 fouls on the night.
Maleeah Langstaff recorded her tenth 20-point performance of the season with a game-high 25-points. The NSU senior was 14-for-18 at the free-throw line, with both her made shots and attempts being the most since 2017.
Morgan Lee was NSU's second-leading scorer with 11 points,
Maegan Lee had nine, and
Kailyn Lay added eight off the bench.
Following a disastrous start where NSU shot 1-for-18 to start the game, they closed the first half on a 12-2 run, with
Morgan Lee splashing a three just before the halftime horn to trail Newman 21-19.
The RiverHawks caught Newman late in the third stanza finishing on a 13-3 run. Langstaff would have eight points in the final 3:35 of the quarter as NSU overtook the Jets.
Newman shot 39.2-percent from the field and out-rebounded NSU by three with 39 on the night. The Jets had two players with 12 points as they fell to 2-23 (0-19 MIAA).
The RiverHawks took their fourth straight over Newman and improved to 6-19 (4-15 MIAA)
Northeastern State will remain at home and will host Central Oklahoma on Saturday for Senior Day at 1:30 p.m.
