The Setup

  • Northeastern State makes its final out-of-state trip Tuesday and will face Washburn for the ninth time in Topeka.   The RiverHawks are eliminated from the MIAA Tournament but can be spoilers, with Washburn vying for a seeding spot. 

Last Time Out

Central Oklahoma 74, Northeastern State 46 | February 19, 2022 | Tahlequah
  • Maegan Lee scored a team-high 13 points as the RiverHawks suffered a 74-46 loss to Central Oklahoma on senior day inside the NSU Event Center here Saturday afternoon.
  • Zaria Collins' jumper gave NSU its only lead of the game at 2-0 two minutes into the contest. Central Oklahoma would use a 15-4 run to open a nine-point advantage and lead 17-8 after one quarter. 
  • Three seniors played their final game in the Event Center, Maleeah Langstaff finished with eight points, five rebounds, and five assists, Morgan Lee scored seven points, one rebound, and one assist, and sister Maegan had a team-high 13 points and four rebounds.

Storylines

  • Maleeah Langstaff is among the top-100 in the nation in nine statistical categories this season and is second in the MIAA, shooting 51.2-percent from the field.  The senior is among the MIAA leaders with 6.2 defensive rebounds per game and fifth in the association with 8.8 rebounds per game.  This season, Langstaff has eight double-double games and is only player in the MIAA with a triple-double.
  • Zaria Collins returned to the starting lineup in the previous two games.  This season, Collins has missed five games due to injuries and is still second on the NSU roster in scoring with 11.4 points per game. 
  • Morgan Lee leads the RiverHawks with 101 games played with 69 starts.  Against Bacone this season, Lee had a career-high seven steals which was tied for 16th-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball.   Her twin-sister Maegan Lee is third on the NSU roster averaging 8.9 points per game this season.  The RiverHawks have a third Lee in true-freshman Courtney Lee, who is not related to the Lee Twins and has seen the floor in 25 games.
  • Ashton Hackler has started the last 16 games and has scored at-least ten points in ten games during her true-freshman season.  She leads the team with 34 made three-pointers.  
  • After missing the first six games due to injury, true-freshman Jaylee Kindred made her career debut at Northwest Missouri and her first start at Central Oklahoma.  Kailyn Lay started and made her NSU debut against Pittsburg State on Dec. 12.
  • Northeastern State's 62 team rebounds against Bacone is an MIAA high tied for 22nd-most in NCAA Division II women's basketball this season.
  • NSU has a 639 game streak of making at least one three-pointer.  Dec. 30, 1999, at Central Arkansas is the last time Northeastern State without making a trey.
  • The RiverHawks are in their tenth season as members of the MIAA and 25th season as an NCAA Division II program.

About Washburn

  • Washburn comes into Tuesday's game, dropping its previous two games on the road.  They had a 58-53 overtime setback on Saturday at Northwest Missouri.
  • This week, NSU is the first of three games to close out the regular season.
  • The Ichabods carry one of the larger travel rosters in the MIAA, with 18 expected to suit up against NSU Saturday. 
  • Washburn averages 59.5 points per games, 3rd lowest in the MIAA and they are second to last in the MIAA in three-point attempts at 390.
  • Hunter Bentley ranks eighth in the MIAA, averaging 14.6 ppg.  Bentley was recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for the second consecutive season. 

Last Time They Met

  • Maleeah Langstaff paced the RiverHawks for the 12th time this season with 16 points and seven rebounds.  Ashton Hackler scored 13 and led the team with three treys on the day. 
  • Maegan Lee had nine points and a team-high four assists; Morgan Lee added seven.
  • NSU hung with the Ichabods early and trailed 17-13 after the opening stanza.  Meagan Lee hit a three-pointer with 6:07 left to the half to get them within a pair (22-20) from Washburn.  The Ichabods followed up with eight unanswered points and NSU would never make up the gap.
  • The RiverHawks shot 30.2-percent (16-53) from the field, its lowest of the season.

  • Tuesday will be the eighth February meeting between the two programs. 
  • Northeastern State has not won consecutive road games against Washburn.
  • The teams first met in March 13, 2010 in the NCAA Tournament in a Lady Reds / Lady Blues contest.
